Alfonso Perplexon

Alfonso Perplexon

Alfonso’s favorite time of year is the two weeks in early January when World’s End Elementary School goes on winter break. During this time, Alfonso goes sleep-cross-country skiing through the Forest of the Obitteroos, which is a vast primeval forest that surrounds World’s End. The snow in the Forest is always powdery and it often accumulates in drifts as deep as twenty feet. These drifts can suck you in like quicksand and only an expert backcountry skier, like Alfonso’s sleeping self, can navigate them safely. While skiing through the forest, Alfonso likes to identify the tracks of various animals and listen to the creak of the snow-covered trees. His sleeping self’s favorite thing to do is to climb the forest's trees using shoes with special spikes known as crampons. Once he is up in the treetops, Alfonso likes to feed the falcons that have nested there. Alfonso also does other bizarre things while asleep (for example, tight rope walking along the World’s End power lines).
